I’m a DAWG…
I’m not too proud; I’ll admit it: I’m just an old Dawg.
The guys in my Cell Group are sniggering among themselves, glancing over at me. They found a picture of poor old me and they laughed; but it’s pathetic old Sot …

Ambushed by a photographer lurking in the shadows to get the perfect "OLD DAWG" shot
Just know this: that’s not my normal hunky pose. The photography surprised me, and I couldn’t suck my gut in on time.
My Life
Let me show you why I’m such a saggy, baggy old man. It’s really quite simple: compare these two different blogs describing the same event, and you’ll understand (it’s Mike’s story of his “visitation” to another church, while he’s talking to Pastor Joe):
I brought up that we didn’t sing at Xenos. And he was baffled, you don’t sing? No I said, but we worship God in other ways…“What do you mean you told him we don’t worship????!!!” – quoted by Keith McCallum.
(From Mikey’s Blog)
Really, why does the Monster-Keith yell at poor Mikey for telling Pastor Joe we didn’t sing? More astounding, I accused poor Mikey of saying we “don’t worship at Xenos”, which was sooo unfair because Mikey clearly said, “We worship God in other ways.” So typical of the grumpy-frumpy-old-man!
But wait!
Look, there’s another “Official Mikey Version” of the story published at the NeoZine, which Mikey endorsed after a brief-but-very-poignant discussion with me:
I brought up that we didn’t have a Worship Service at Xenos. And he was baffled, “You don’t worship?” “No,” I said. I did get burned on that one the next day by Keith. “What do you mean you told him we don’t worship????!!!” – quoted by Keith McCallum
That’s why I look so worn-down in that picture above: it’s just…so very wearisome, at times.
But I will say I do love those guys, which even includes that dude with different versions of the same event — they crack me up, even if it is at my own expense.

Oh silly Mikey!
i bet that poor guy was just trying to complete his church visitation assignment for the Churchology Ontology class and he was just conveying the message that we didn’t sing. Which is in fact not a very common thing in christian churches. Most churches sing and do the worship thing but the fact is when we are replacing the powerful word of God with singing and temporary love feelings then we have a problem. So many churches build up the worship service to be the reason to come to the Sunday service. They go to sing and “feel” God, then they go home and they don’t even remember what the teaching was about or even Gods character at all. Its sad really B was talking to a kid at the Mosaic church that meets at Kimpton middle school every Sunday why he went to that church and just casually pointed back at the meeting room and said “because of that!” and B said what the singing? and he said “YA, you can like feel it after the meeting the power of God!”
So i think that guy had it right when he said we don’t have a worship service at Xenos… I would also give that guy who wrote that blog like five bucks too next time you see him cause he is that cool.
Haha, yer a funny guy, Mike.
But I am so glad you guys are thinking your way through these old, worn-out and completely unnecessary traditions like “Worship Service”, et. al. It’s really quite radical.
I think that the sing is a good timne and when a cristan does not sing it showes they don’t care about GOd.
Hey Don, as I explain in I’m a BAD Dawg, I have nothing against singing at all; in fact I love it. What I’m griping about is the “Worship Service”, which frankly is rarely spontaneous and most often is just “the thing we have to do.” That’s my complaint. And I don’t think God cares much for it either. Thanks for stopping by to add your opinion!
so basically mute people dont care about GOd. thats wierd so people that cant hear or speak obviously dont love the lord our GOd.
Now i know im new about this, but i don’t think Jesus ever sang in the bible, or for that matter went to a worship service.
So Don does that mean Jesus doesn’t care about god?
ah poor keith, did those cell dudes finally get to ya? Come on where’s your whole-hearted dissing?! haha, it’s cool tho. We all love ya alot, bro. You’ve been one of the best influences on me since the day i met ya. I am just so wonderfully blessed to have you in my life, we all are. I just wish I had a more substantial way to express it to ya.
mYKe, you be nice, now! It’s spelled “God”, not “GOd”, as you know.
Tom, Jesus sings the Jewish “Psalter” in Lk.22 as part of the Jewish Passover Meal.
Thanks so much Jeff. And I would never diss you whole-heartedly!
